Users and downloads on TikTok

From January 2019, TikTok has reported 800 million monthly active users throughout the world (700 million in June 2018).

Almost 1.27 billion copies of the software have been downloaded throughout the world (1). The number of downloads has increased since June of 2018. After WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook, it is the fourth most downloaded app overall (excluding games) on both the App Store and Google Play in 2018. Also debuting in the first half of 2018: the first iOS app.

In June of this year, TikTok had 56.7 million downloads, which was down 7% from June of 2018.

Of the new TikTok downloads in January 2019, 43% were in India and 9% were in the United States.

With over 176 million new downloads in Q3 2019, TikTok was the second most downloaded app worldwide, after only WhatsApp (184 million) (1).

In the first six months of 2019, Tik Tok gained 110 million new users (1).

There are currently 150 countries and 75 languages supported by TikTok. The number of TikTok users is highest in India, where there are 200 million subscriptions and 100 million monthly active users.

TikTok user demographics and behaviour

According to App Appe Lab’s findings, users aged 10–19 make up the majority of TikTok’s global user base, with those aged 20–29 coming in second (5). Around 40% of TikTok’s global user base consists of millennials (those aged 16-24). (6).

Users all throughout the world would spend, on average, 52 minutes each day utilising the app (8). As compared to Facebook’s “competitors,” such as Instagram (96%), Snapchat (95%), and YouTube (95%), TikTok’s estimated engagement rate of 29% for the USA is relatively low.

In France, they use TikTok.

As of June 2019, the network in France has 4.4 million monthly active users, most of whom are between the ages of 10 and 14.

TikTok users skew heavily female (67% vs. 57% in 2018) and male (33%).

Time spent on the app averages 48 minutes per user each day (40 min in 2018). An average of nine times every day per user.

The monthly average for video views has risen to 8.2 billion (3) from 5 billion in 2018. (7).

While just 0.9% of French internet users are regular users of TikTok, 3.4% of those between the ages of 15 and 24 make daily use of the service (9).

Finance

ByteDance, TikTok’s parent business, has a valuation of $75 billion, making it the most valuable startup in the world in August 2018 and well surpassing the valuation of Uber (72 billion). ByteDance, which includes the apps TikTok and Toutia, has 1.5 billion users globally and is projected to earn 13 billion euros in revenue in 2018. (3).

Bytedance’s salary packages for US workers would be 20% more than Facebook’s (11).

Sales for 2018 are projected to be between 7 and 8 billion USD, or 50 and 60 billion yuan. However the 2019 goal has been raised, and is now expected to generate $ 120 billion in revenue (16.7 billion dollars). Profitability is possible as early as the second half of 2019. (10).

According to reports, TikTok made over $10.8 million in June 2019 through in-app purchases by users are increaseing in year over year. In June of this year, 69% of app purchases came from Chinese customers (4).
