Instagram Now Allows Users To Like Stories
Joe Walker - May 18, 2023Instagram now lets you “like” stories, providing you even another option for showing appreciation for other people’s work.
Now that Instagram has included a like button, users may more actively participate in stories.
Sending a person a direct message was up until now the only option to respond to an Instagram story.
Instagram has introduced a new option for users to interact with stories by “liking” them instead of sending private messages to express their gratitude.
According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, this change is being made to help users better manage their direct message inboxes.
Before, the only ways to interact with an Instagram story were to re-post it or leave a comment.
All of those alternatives made users’ direct messages more difficult to navigate.
The like button on a story now functions similarly to that on a typical feed post, in that it expresses interest without alerting the author to a direct message.
While the like button for stories and feed articles may appear similar, there are important distinctions between the two.
Instagram’s Story Likes and Their Function
Instagram stories will now have a heart-shaped like button.
The “like” option allows readers to express their approval of your piece. You will have to manually check to get many likes your story got and who liked it.
The “viewer sheet,” where you can see who has viewed your story, is where you can check how many times your tale has been liked.
Instagram will not alert you when someone likes your story because the whole goal of the feature is to cut down on alerts.
Instagram’s focus this year, as outlined by Mosseri, is on making messaging better. Adding the ability to like stories is only one step towards enhancing Instagram direct messages.
You are the only person who will know how many times an article has been liked.
Since the number of likes for a certain article is recorded in the audience sheet, you will have 24 hours to monitor its popularity.
Mosseri was vague on whether or not algorithmic weight will be given to narrative likes.
Therefore, it is unclear if popular tales will be prioritised in the carousel.
We also don’t know if a story’s number of likes affects its visibility on the Explore tab.
Alternatively, the number of likes a post receives does have an algorithmic effect on both the main feed and the Explore page.

We’re excited to announce that as of today, you may now like any story you view on Instagram. There is now a heart icon in Stories between the send message and the paper aeroplane options. If you tap it, you’ll display your approval of the tale on the writer’s viewer sheet, but not in a direct message conversation. You can do this without worrying about your inbox being cluttered.
If they or you publish a story and later wish to know how many people loved it, you may do so by visiting the story’s reader sheet, where a small heart icon will appear for each person who liked it.
So, have a look. Read through your posts and hit the “like” button on the ones that caught your eye. Share some affection with another person. Give me your feedback. Please let me know if you have any additional suggestions for enhancing Instagram’s features.
